The question is What fashion trend did “miami vice” help make popular? Miami Vice was a popular TV series that came out in the 1980’s. The show had an impact beyond the small screen. The shows main character was officer Sony Crockett who was played by Don Johnson, who had a significant effect on that times culture. The most notable impact the show had was the fashion trend. The show brought a fashion trend which people still follow to this day.
Although detective Sony Crockett was the main character he had his side kick Ricardo Tubbs. These two guys revolutionized 80’s fashion. They were the cool detectives. Yeah sure there was probably a few detective shows going on at the same time but none had the fashion these guys had making it very interesting and making it still referenced till this day.
If you watch the show, one of the fashion statements was the colors used in the stars wardrobe. This was a huge fashion trend in the 80’s and is still being followed today. The show was not a fan of dark colors.
No Socks Trend
Sony Crockett the character around which the show revolved was never seen wearing socks in any scene, even when wearing blazers or formal shoes. Which if you visit Miami you’ll see the no socks trend.
Another thing that can answer What Fashion Trend did “Miami Vice” help make popular? is the V-neck T-shirts worn by the shows characters, commonly worn along with the jacket and trousers. In this trend, t-shirts are tucked in the trouser, just like Don does in the front.
Unique Style Blazers
Ricardo Tubbs made this trend popular. The Crockett’s side kick wore was double breasted and sleek and also matched with his trouser. This trend included rolling up the sleeves of the blazer and wearing a t-shirt with it. People still till this day follow this trend.
One of the trends which had a significant impact on the fashion of that time was of shoulder pads, in blazers, jackets, and even t-shirts. They wore shoulder pads for everything on the show.
Last but not least. Actually probably the most popular fashion trend when asking the question “What Fashion Trend Did Miami Vice Make Popular? is the trend of wearing wayfarer shades. The most constant trend of the show was the character wearing wayfarer glasses. I would have to say the wayfarer glasses and pastel glasses are the main fashion trends that made Miami Vice popular. They all made Miami Vice popular but these were the two that stood out the most. We think.
A Little History on The Show
Miami Vice went on for 5 Season’s and it influenced a few films. Although disputed by their producers movies such as To Live and Die in L.A., Bad Boys, Bad Boys 2 borrowed heavily from the concept of Miami Vice which all featured two undercover cops going to extreme lengths to catch their target.
Also a couple of video games paid homage to Miami Vice. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and its prequel Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. These video games include several direct references to the television series.
Being From Where Miami Vice was filmed.
Well being from Miami I could say Miami Vice still has a huge effect on the fashion here in Miami. In the summer you could find most people in Miami wearing the pastel colors with the sock less shoes and wayfarers. I feel like its a trend that will always be alive in Miami. Even ocean drive till this day which is one of the main streets in Miami Beach where the film was shot, which is a street lined with hotels. All the hotels on this street light up in pastel colors at night. Could be paying homeage to Miami Vice we don’t know, but we think so. Crazy to think that one television show from almost 40 years ago can have such an influence on a city. Miami Vice was excellent and will forever be one of the best things to happen in Miami.
So there you have it a culture change or fashion trend that has taken over a city and possibly many other cities and the country.
